Machine vision – vision technology
Machine vision can be defined as “interpretation of an image taken using optical non-contact methods for the purpose of obtaining information and/or controlling machines or processes.” Optonova’s ability to solve automatic inspection tasks derives, in part, from its in-depth expertise in the following areas of technology:
- Image processing. Image processing is the key technology of machine vision. This includes electronics and software for grabbing, handling and processing images. The image processing must extract the relevant information in the images quickly and accurately.
- Smart camera technology. A smart camera includes image capture as well as image processing. The output is most often a decision (OK or defect) or measurement values. The most advanced smart cameras use image sensors with on-chip image processing capability.
- Optics. The design of optimal Illumination and imaging optics ensures good images where objects of interest are enhanced.
